There's one year left on the striker's current deal.

Ollie Palmer has confirmed that he has no plans to leave Wrexham this summer amid questions about his future with the Championship side.

The squad that Phil Parkinson has worked with at the Racecourse has had a few dramatic shifts since he took over in the summer of 2021, when they are in the National League. A small handful of his players have been ever-present throughout the club's rise up the English footballing pyramid, however, one of whom is Palmer.

AFC Wimbledon's former centre-forward moved to the north Wales side in Parkinson's first winter window with the club and played a huge role in getting Wrexham into the EFL.

His goals have slowly dried up since leaving non-league football behind, leaving some to question whether the 33-year-old, whose last game was in the EFL trophy in mid-February, will be part of the club's plans going forward as they eye a successful first season in the Championship.

They are expected to challenge the newly relegated Premier League sides - Ipswich Town, Leicester City and Southampton - for transfer targets this summer, and have been linked with top flight talents like Aaron Cresswell and Tom Cairney.

Ollie Palmer set to stay and fight for his Wrexham spot this summer

Palmer, who has one year left on his contract, has demonstrated his commitment to the Red Dragons by the distance he has travelled to get to and from the club from his home in the English capital. He has stated that he is prepared to battle for his spot in Parkinson's squad this summer.

Responding to speculation around his Wrexham future, the number nine told CBS Sports Golazo: "I've actually had that since I arrived. So I arrived January 2022, three-and-a-half years ago, and the following summer everyone was like 'Palmer is going to leave'. Every window I've been at the club people think that I'm going to leave.

"My family are down in London and I commute between the two, so I travel up from London to Wrexham. I think I worked out that since I signed for Wrexham I could have driven to America and back, something ridiculous like that.

"There's always those rumours but I'm going to come back. It's obviously a hugely talented squad already, and the gaffer is going to build on that, but I'm going to come back, fight for my shirt, get fit, get ready and go again."

Ollie Palmer will be well aware of his standing within Wrexham

The club that the Londoner applies his trade for are certainly not short of ambition. They have plans to be one of the top 20 clubs in English football sooner than later; their upcoming summer transfer activity will give us an indication of just how soon that may come.

While he did start in 26 of the 27 appearances he made last season, Palmer has never played in the Championship. It's unlikely that at 33 he's going to prove to be a real handful for defenders in Wrexham's new division. That, combined with the expected arrivals this summer, is likely to push Palmer down the pecking order at the Racecourse.
