Club legend and former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted he’d be open to making a managerial return to Old Trafford in the future.

Solskjaer has been out of management for three years, after he was sacked by United in November 2021.

He had initially taken over as caretaker manager three years earlier.

In the United dugout, the Norwegian oversaw 149 matches as permanent manager. He also took charge of 19 matches as interim gaffer after Jose Mourinho was let go, just before his appointment.

During his first full campaign, Solskjaer led the club to a strong second-place finish in the Premier League. He was relieved of his duties the season after following a run of poor results and performances, with a humiliating 4-1 defeat at the hands of Watford being the final nail in the coffin.

United had won just one of their seven top-flight fixtures by the time they permanently parted ways with Solskjaer.

He has since been linked to a number of jobs including Burnley, Leicester City, Besiktas and Bayern Munich. It’s believed that he was also on the radar of some national teams including Canada, Sweden and the Republic of Ireland.

The 51-year-old has in the past admitted that he’s only willing to take up the right opportunity.

Speaking at the Oslo Business Forum on Thursday afternoon (via Manchester World), Solskjaer revealed that he still harbours hopes of returning to United one day.

When asked whether he would consider managing United again, he replied, “I would say yes every day of the week.”

“It feels wrong to talk about jobs that other people have, but I would say yes of course.”

The 1999 treble winner was also put to the task about the possibility of one day managing the Norway national side. He remarked, “I am a proud Norwegian, and of course if the question arises, when Ståle decides to give up, I will happily engage in discussions.”

He finished off by insisting that he is a proud Norwegian who loves where he comes from.
