Rennes have announced the signing of Al-Nassr midfielder Seko Fofana (29). The Ivory Coast international has put pen to paper over a four-a-half-year deal with Stade Rennais, tying him to a contract set to expire in 2029. It has been reported that Rennes’ outlay to lure the 2024 AFCON winner rises to €20m. Fofana was loaned to SPL side Al-Ettifaq. The former RC Lens captain underwent a medical this Monday in Paris.
Fofana’s signing represents a significant statement of intent from Rennes, who were in a market for an experienced box-to-box midfielder to bolster Jorge Sampaoli’s side. As previously reported by Get French Football News, the former Udinese midfielder was billed as the No.1 priority by Les Rouge et Noir. In Brittany, Fofana has reunited with former Lens CEO Arnaud Pouille, who has replaced Olivier Cloarec as Rennes president.
