Lazio have announced the departure of their head coach Marco Baroni who leaves his post after a solitary year in charge.
The 61-year-old was appointed as Lazio manager last summer following an exceptional campaign at Hellas Verona. The Tuscan enjoyed a stellar start to the season, with the Biancocelesti competing on all fronts, but they finished the season empty-handed following an abysmal second half.
Therefore, the two parties have mutually opted to part ways. While the decision has been in the air for several days, Lazio have finally announced Baroni’s departure on Monday through a statement released on the club’s official website.
SS Lazio thanks Marco Baroni for the professionalism and commitment he has shown while leading the First Team. The Company wishes the coach the best of luck in his career. Thank you Mister.
With Baroni officially out of the club, the next step for the Aquile is to appoint a new manager. While the official announcement has yet to arrive, Lazio Sporting Director Angelo Fabiani has already spilt the beans, revealing that Maurizio Sarri has already signed his contract. The 63-year-old confirmed it in a phone call with Adnkronos news agency (via La Lazio Siamo Noi).
Forget what they say in Florence. Sarri has already signed. I have the contracts, Claudio [Lotito] has also signed. Let them talk, there’s no problem. He’s coming on Thursday to start planning for next season.
This will be Sarri’s second tenure at Lazio, having taken charge of the team for almost three years between 2021 and 2024. His original stint had its highs and lows, and it ended with a shocking resignation in the middle of the campaign due to locker-room issues.
