Heidenheim attacker Leo Scienza’s move to Southampton is finally official. The 26-year-old departs his Bundesliga outfit on a record deal for his small-market club. FCH sporting CEO Holger Sanwald issued a statement thanking the Brazilian for his year-plus service to the Heidenheim project. The player himself bid the club supporters an emotional farewell.
“His winning goal in extra time in the relegation match in Elversberg will never be forgotten,” Sanwald said. “Leo played a major role in helping us stay in the Bundesliga last season with that historic goal. He wanted to take the next step in his career. The economic scale of this deal was such that we could agree to the transfer.“
“Playing in the Bundesliga was a big dream that I was able to fulfill here,” Scienza added in his own statement. “I experienced many unforgettable moments at FCH, especially my goal in the relegation play-off. That something very special for the whole club and for me personally. I am very grateful to my teammates, the coaching team, and our fans for our time together. I will always have fond memories of FCH.“
