As previously reported on Monday, Antoine Kombouaré is no longer in the Nantes dugout. Les Canaris are in disarray in the league standings, having plunged to 17th with four games left to play. A Ligue 2 relegation is looming and the Nantes board have decided to pull the plug. The 59-year-old manager was appointed by his formative club from his playing days in 2021 when he replaced Raymond Domenech, whose tenure as Nantes’ head coach was a disaster.

The former PSG boss turned the club’s fortunes around and saved Nantes from relegation when he first came in. Last year, Les Canaris won a shock Coupe de France title, their first silverware since their eighth league title in 2001. Nantes went on to play the Europa League this season and managed to qualify for the playoff round, where they were defeated by Juventus (1-1, 0-3). In Ligue 1, Nantes were unconvincing but looked somewhat safe from relegation. However, since their defeat at the hands of Turin, the wheels have completely come off. The Loire-Atlantique outfit lost 7 and drew 4 of their last 11 Ligue 1 games.

As reported by Ouest-France, Nantes U19 coach Pierre Aristouy will replace Kombouaré in the dugout for the four last games of the season. Former Nantes centre-back Oswaldo Vizcarrondo, who coaches the women’s team, will join his staff. Nantes will travel away at Toulouse for Ligue 1 gameweek 35 on Sunday.
