So far this season, New York City FC has only won once on the road. The team beat Toronto FC in Canada in what was a little bit of a lucky win. As such, they are still seeking that second road win and have another shot during their four-game road trip. The second match will be against Orlando City SC, but can the Boys in Blue secure three points?
While NYCFC won the home fixture, the likelihood of winning in Orlando is slim. The reason is that the two teams have tied multiple times since the Pigeons last won at Inter & Co Stadium in 2018. It might not be the worst thing, especially since the visitors have only lost once during that period, not including losses via penalty kicks, of course.
However, the NYCFC desperately needs the three points, and a draw in Orlando would not be good enough. They need to take the attack they had against Charlotte FC but also find the back of the net, for the lack of goals was why the Pigeons lost over the weekend.
So, here is a preview of NYCFC’s road game against Orlando City SC.
NYCFC and Orlando City will play each other on Wednesday, July 16.
The fixture will begin at 7:30 PM ET.
The match will take place at Inter & Co Stadium in Orlando, FL.
Fans can watch the game on the MLS Season Pass via Apple TV.
Since this is Florida in the summer, there is always a chance of rain. There will be about a 30% chance of precipitation during the game, but right now, the forecast has any storms occurring earlier. It will be around 84 degrees but will feel like 91, with the humidity at 73%.
Malachi Jones (leg) and Keaton Parks (leg) continue to be out due to their injuries.
NYCFC supporters should pay attention to Thiago Martins. While the attack needs to score on the road, the captain needs to lead his team to play well defensively and not make any mistakes like they did with the first goal during the Charlotte match. The last four of five regular-season matches in Orlando have ended in 1-1 draws, so giving up at least one goal is highly likely. That is why Martins has to be at his best so he can inspire his fellow defenders to be at their best.
On Orlando, fans should watch Martín Ojeda. The midfielder has ten goals and seven assists, making him the biggest threat as a scorer and provider. Plus, he is listed as having nine assists on the team’s website, meaning he has two second assists. The Argentine is also a fantastic player on the pitch and is having his best season with the Lions. Ideally, he will not play his best against the Pigeons.
Normally, it would make sense to predict a draw in Orlando. Yes, a win is needed, but based on the recent road games, unfortunately, a loss is the prediction. NYCFC will fall 1-0. They will attack well, but struggle to find the clinical finish.
