Matheus Nunes says Pep Guardiola is a ‘one of a kind’ manager.

The City boss celebrated 300 Premier League games in charge against Nottingham Forest last weekend and is once again immersed in a title race in the closing weeks of the season.

Nunes, who could face his old club Wolves on Saturday, says Guardiola never allows players to get in a comfort zone and the expectations are the same no matter who the opponents are.

“He is one of a kind,” says Nunes.

“He just takes everything to the detail and every day he is very passionate and intense in what he wants from the game and from the players.

“He doesn’t let us relax because the pressure is so high, and we need to win every game.

“There are maybe certain times where we relax a little bit and he is there every single time, it doesn’t matter if we are playing against Real Madrid or a team in the sixth division for the Cup, he is like that, and this is the best.

“Last year the team won the Treble and everyone would expect this season for the team to be relaxed, but there is no time for relaxing because he wants to win again and again.

“The players all think the same, so it matches very well with the players that he brings here.

“It doesn’t matter who goes out or who comes in, every player has the mentality to win every single week.”

Nunes says the same game by game mentality that Guardiola instils in his players applies to the final weeks of the current campaign.

City know that winning the final four league games of the season would mean a fourth successive Premier League title – but only by focusing on Wolves next allows that process to be effective.

“We can see the flag already, but there are still five games [in all competitions] and we just have to look at each of them. We just have to look at Wolves and then we go from there," he said,

“When I was at Sporting I was fighting for titles, so it feels the same. It is a great feeling, the best to be fair.

“Last year I fought against relegation with Wolves which was not a very good experience with butterflies in your stomach every time.

“I am very happy to be here. I wanted to be here, fighting for titles and I just want to help the team as much as I can in every minute that I have.

“The manager gives me the opportunities and I try to take it.”

And Nunes says the manager’s intensity and demands are matched by many of the City players in the squad, adding: “You come in and you don’t know how the players act, their personalities and only see them from the TV or playing against them.

“These players won the Treble last season, so I knew they had a good mentality, but I didn’t know it was like this.

“Some players have as much intensity as the manager, so it is great. It pushes you every single day, so it is the best.”
