Nottingham Forest are looking into a possible deal to re-sign Aston Villa right-back Matty Cash, according to The Athletic.
Forest will play in the Europa League this season and are determined to build a stronger squad for the challenges ahead.
They recently confirmed the signing of French striker Arnaud Kalimuendo, and are exploring more additions in different areas of the pitch.
Cash has emerged as one of the names on their shortlist as they assess potential recruits.
A move would mark an emotional return to the City Ground, where he started his senior career.
Cash played 141 matches for Forest before leaving in 2020. He bagged 13 goals and 14 assists during his time at the club.
Villa are yet to receive an official bid. Cash signed his current contract in April 2022, which ties him to the Birmingham club until 2027.
Discussions about extending his stay at Villa Park have also taken place.
Forest looked at Manchester City defender Rico Lewis this summer. Their proposal was rejected, forcing them to search for alternatives.
Cash’s versatility and experience at the highest level make him an attractive target.
Since joining Villa from Forest in a deal worth £14 million plus add-ons, Cash has played 181 games for the club.
