Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz from Juventus, according to The Athletic.
The 27-year-old is set to join Forest on an initial loan with an obligation to buy for a fee reportedly around €30 million, contingent on him playing a certain number of matches.
Forest are preparing for their first foray into European football in almost three decades, and manager Nuno Espirito Santo is keen on strengthening the squad.
Off the back of an underwhelming spell with Juventus, Luiz will be keen to get his career back on track, having been deemed surplus to requirements at the Allianz Stadium.
Alongside his defensive solidity and leadership qualities, the Brazilian brings a wealth of Premier League experience, having previously spent five years at Aston Villa.
He was named their Player of the Year in 2022-23, as he helped the club secure a seventh-place finish, ushering in an era of consistent continental football at Villa Park.
Luiz will join a Forest squad that has already been bolstered by seven new additions this summer following the recent acquisition of Arnaud Kalimuendo.
Forest are expected to make further signings before the transfer window shuts, with a new right-back the main priority.
The Tricky Trees were previously in discussions with Manchester City for Rico Lewis, but he is set to sign a new deal at the Etihad Stadium.
Forest are now in advanced talks to sign Jose Angel Carmona from Sevilla, while a move for Villa’s Matty Cash is also being explored.
