Chelsea have done quite a lot of business with Borussia Dortmund in recent years, and that looks set to continue.

The German club are involved in two pieces of Chelsea business – they’re trying to sign Carney Chukwuemeka from us after a successful second half of the season loan last year, and they’re also being linked with Renato Veiga.

Dortmund not pushing for Veiga after all

Christian Falk’s fact file today on the Daily Briefing website makes it clear that one of those moves is far more likely than the other. He claims that it’s “not true” that Dortmund want to beat their rivals Bayern Munich (who have also recently been linked) to Veiga’s signature.

“Veiga was more of a topic of discussion for BVB last summer [before he made Chelsea move],” the insider said. He doesn’t refute Bayern’s interest however, instead repeating what he’s said in the past on this subject – the German giants need to sell players before they buy. In this case, defender Kim Min-jae will have to find a new club before they’re ready to spend the €40m or so it might take to sign Veiga.

Veiga may not move at all after injury news

Given last night’s news, things could be about to change dramatically for Veiga. Levi Colwill has had surgery on his ACL and will be out for most of the season, if not all of it.

The plan has always been to sell Veiga, but there’s certainly a chance that Chelsea tear up that plan now and decide to keep him, given his preferred position is the exact one we’ve just lost a player in.

From what insiders are reporting, Chelsea are not planning to sign someone new – but keeping a player around who was otherwise going to be sold could be a good compromise.
