Norwich City should not be selling midfielder Marcelino Nunez in the summer transfer window, despite interest from Trabzonspor.

That's according to Football League World's Norwich City fan pundit, Zeke Downes, who believes the Chile international will play a big role for the Canaries next season.

Nunez made the move to Carrow Road back in the summer of 2022, when he joined from Universidad Catolica in his home country for a reported £3million.

Since then, the 24-year-old has become an important player in the centre of the park for the Championship club, scoring five goals and providing five assists in 81 appearances in all competitions.

However, his form now appears to be attracting interest from elsewhere with the summer market open, although it appears those links will not be welcomed by Norwich City fans.

Norwich supporter reacts to Marcelino Nunez rumours

According to recent reports, Trabzonspor have now made a bid to sign Nunez this summer, for a fee of €3.5million.

However, it is thought that Norwich have rejected that bid from the Turkish side, and are holding out for a much higher fee for the sale of the midfielder this summer.

Now it seems as though fans of the Canaries may well agree that is the right stance for their side to take, when it comes to that interest in Nunez from Trabzonspor, judging by these comments from Downes.

When asked whether he thinks the club should cash in on the midfielder, and what a fair valuation of him is, the Norwich City fan told Football League World:

"Nunez will be a key player to is next season. I think we signed him for about £3million, so there's no way that the €3.5million bid is anywhere near how much we'd accept.

"I think he's worth a lot more like 10(million) and I can see him playing a key part next season. At the end of the season he looked very very good and he was really into his groove and he is going to be vital. There's no way that we're going to let him go at all."

There are still two years remaining on Nunez' contract with Norwich, securing his future at Carrow Road until the end of the 2025/26 season.

That does give the Canaries some scope to negotiate any bids that come in. Having missed out on promotion via the play-offs at the end of last season, they will once again compete in the Championship in the 2024/25 campaign.

However, they will now be managed by Johannes Hoff Thorup, who has replaced David Wagner as manager.

For their part, Trabzonspor finished last season third in the Turkish top-flight, securing their qualification for the Europa League.

Norwich must look to keep Nunez

It would make a lot of sense for Norwich to try and retain the services of Nunez despite this interest from elsewhere.

The Canaries will no doubt once again be aiming for promotion next season, having shown the potential they have to challenge for a return to the top-flight this season.

Based on his performances this season, Nunez will have a significant role to play in any hopes Norwich have of being successful with those efforts.

As a result, it would be a welcome show of intent from the club if they were to keep him, given there is interest from elsewhere.

Indeed, for a player as important as Nunez, Norwich are going to want to generate a decent profit, and this offer from Trabzonspor right now, does not give them a chance to do that.

It does therefore make sense for the Canaries to reject this bid, especially when his contract situation means they are not under pressure to cash in on him this summer.

With that in mind, it would feel like a surprise to see Nunez move on from Norwich City this month, if a much bigger offer than that made by Trabzonspor here does not come in.
