Wigan’s K’Marni Miller is attracting plenty of interest from the Championship and League One
Norwich City and Stockport County have been linked with a move for young Wigan Athletic full-back K’Marni Miller.
That’s according to Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke, who revealed the interest of the Championship and League One sides on Wednesday evening.
The 19-year-old signed for the Latics last summer from non-league side Guiseley and has impressed after managing to break into the first team.
It is no wonder the two clubs have been alerted to Miller, given the rave reviews he received from former Latics boss Shaun Maloney.
Miller was only originally meant as a development signing, but shone when thrust into the spotlight.
Speaking to Wigan Today last October, Maloney said: "K'Marni has got so much still to work on, but he's got a brilliant heart, and he tries his best, fights, and runs as hard as he can.
“I find myself relying on K'Marni, which is crazy...he's trained probably five times with the first team.
"But he gives me everything, he tries to support Silko (Thomas) at every opportunity, making that run outside or in behind, and then he sprints back. And the big thing is, if I ask him to play in a position, he tries to do it the best he can.”
Given Miller only managed four senior appearances last term, he clearly made a strong impression.
It’s going to be an exciting summer at Carrow Road, with former Bristol City boss Liam Manning being appointed to try and improve on a disappointing 13th-place finish this year.
They’ve also moved early in the market for players too, splashing £2.3m on former Manchester City midfielder Jacob Wright, who spent the second half of last season on loan with the Canaries.
Their squad, and now manager, befits a better standing than mid-table, so they will have a strong project to show talented young players like Miller, as well as a strong track for developing youth.
But only last year did the Canaries spend £1.5m on Ben Chrisene, who plays in the same position as Miller, so a route to first-team action would not be simple.
Conversely, the Hatters have just waved goodbye to left-back Ibou Touray, whose deal expired at Edgeley Park this month, with the Gambia international turning down the renewal offered.
The 30-year-old made 43 League One appearances for Dave Challinor’s side last term, significant minutes that will need replacing.
While Miller would still have Ryan Rydel to battle for the place, there is a much clearer opening at Edgeley Park.
The Hatters are developing a reputation for trusting in youth, with their captain, 22-year-old Lewis Bate, handed the armband on arrival last summer, and the likes of Louie Barry announcing himself to the Football League with the Hatters.
