North American owners Oaktree Capital and RedBird Capital will fight for their first trophies with Inter Milan and AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter and Milan are among a number of Italian, and big European, clubs with North American ownership.
That is certainly a trend that has emerged in recent years.
Inter changed owners in May of last year. Oaktree Capital, owned by Canadian fund Brookfield, took over from Chinese company Suning.
Meanwhile, RedBird have been owners of Milan for a couple of years now. They took over from another US-based fund, in the form of Elliott Management.
As of yet, neither Oaktree nor RedBird have managed to win a trophy while owning their respective clubs.
In the case of Oaktree and Inter, they have been at the helm for less than a year.
There hasn’t really been an opportunity for the Nerazzurri to win silverware since May. Trophies such as the Serie A title and Coppa Italia came under the ownership of Suning.
Meanwhile, Milan have had chances to win trophies under RedBird.
However, the Rossoneri have failed to. Their most recent trophy, the Serie A title in the 2022-23 season, came under the ownership of Elliott Management.
