Newcastle United are ready to break the bank to keep Alexander Isak at St James’ Park this summer.
According to the Times, the Magpies are prepared to offer him the most lucrative contract in the club’s history to keep him away from interested parties.
Isak has become one of the most sought-after strikers on the continent, drawing interest from Liverpool, Arsenal and Barcelona.
The Swedish international has been a force to be reckoned with since joining the Magpies in 2022.
The ‘world-class’ striker has scored 62 goals in 109 games for the Magpies. He bagged 27 goals in 43 games across all competitions last season.
He scored 23 times in 34 Premier League games. Only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah scored more, leading the Reds to their 20th league title with 29 goals.
Isak still has three years left on his contract with Newcastle, and the club are ready to reward his outstanding form with a new deal that would push his weekly wages beyond £150,000.
That would take him above the club’s current top earners, including Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon.
Liverpool recently spent a record-breaking £116 million to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
Further deals for Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez have taken their overall summer spend above the £200m mark.
However, Liverpool still have the financial muscle to launch a move for Isak if he becomes available. The Reds are not actively in the market for a centre-forward at the moment.
But Newcastle know it’s only a matter of time before they come asking for Isak, especially with Darwin Nunez attracting interest from Serie A champions Napoli.
Isak is considered one of the best strikers in the Premier League, and Newcastle have repeatedly told interested parties that he’s not for sale.
He played a crucial role in Newcastle’s historic League Cup final win against Liverpool in March, ending the club’s 70-year wait for a trophy.
Newcastle are not panicking about the growing interest in Isak. But they want to move fast with the new contract before the offers start coming in.
