Newcastle United welcome Bromley to St James’ Park today in one of the most intriguing FA Cup third-round ties of the weekend.
Bromley are in their first-ever season in the Football League after promotion to League Two last season. The Ravens have made a solid start in the EFL and currently reside in 12th place, just six points from the play-offs.
Under the management of ex-Newcastle goalkeeper coach Andy Woodman, Bromley have also reached the FA Cup’s third round for the first time in their history.
Newcastle will start as overwhelming favourites and head into the clash in red-hot form. Eddie Howe’s side have won seven straight games in all competitions, including a 2-0 win at Arsenal in midweek. That semi-final first leg win has put the Magpies in pole position to reach the Carabao Cup final.
Eddie Howe has confirmed that Alexander Isak will play no part as Newcastle take a cautious approach with their leading scorer. Despite alleviating fears over a serious injury, Howe has said Newcastle will not risk the Swedish striker who was substituted at Arsenal.
Isak is likely to be one of many changes as Howe rotates his options for the clash. Harvey Barnes and Miguel Almiron are hoping for rare starts, while William Osula should lead the line in Callum Wilson’s absence.
Jamaal Lascelles and Nick Pope remain out despite nearing returns. There could be a recall for Lewis Miley. The 18-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season but has seen his season disrupted by a broken metatarsal sustained in pre-season. He has made two substitute appearances in the Premier League since returning to fitness.
Newcastle United predicted XI: Dubravka; Trippier, Kelly, Burn, Targett; Longstaff, Miley, Willock; Barnes, Almiron, Osula.
Newcastle host Bromley in the FA Cup’s third round on Sunday 12th January 2025. Kick-off at St James’ Park is 15:00 GMT.
The match will be broadcast live in the UK on BBC iPlayer to a UK audience.
