Is it a banker?

I don’t think there’s really such a thing anymore as a banker in the Premier League, when you make your predictions or tick a box on a coupon. However, there’s not many teams I’d prefer to play over Everton at St James’ Park on the final day of the season.

They have nothing whatsoever to play for, they are set in for a 13th place place finish no matter what happens on Sunday. They have a lot of injuries and if there was ever a team deemed to be “on the beach ” then I’m of the opinion Everton will be one of those teams.

I’m not arrogant, I’m just simply saying it as I see it. I don’t see a big threat on Sunday.

The biggest threat isn’t the eleven players Everton put out, its whether our players hold their nerve.

I don’t believe that they won’t hold their nerve. Eddie’s boys have already answered a lot of questions and have stepped up and made it theirs when it’s mattered.

Two years ago they got the job done in qualifying for the Champions League when it came to the crunch at home against Brighton and Leicester.

This season we saw this group turn their season on its head and also end a 56 year trophyless hoodoo in rising to the occasion in beating the champions to be Liverpool.

This group of players we have the pleasure of watching and supporting are made of the right stuff and I have no doubts they’ll get the job done on Sunday.

I understand there will be nerves, there will be tension, pressure on everyone on the day, but no disrespect to Everton. We’ve had tougher tests already this season and moving forward we will have tougher tests than the one awaiting on Sunday.

We should be confident in putting them to the sword.

If we are nervous about beating a team who have finished in the bottom half of the league at St James’ Park, then how are we going to manage against much stronger opposition in next season’s Champions League?

Everton are no Barcelona or Bayern Munich.

If we aspire to win more silverware, or fight for the title one day, then we simply have to put opposition like this current Everton team away when we have to.

I’m confident we will take them to the cleaners and finish the season on a high.
