Warren Aspinall used to play for Brighton and has been speaking ahead of Sunday’s match against Newcastle United.
The former Seagull is very confident.
Both in his belief in Brighton and how good they are, full of confidence.
Whilst also believing Newcastle United will easily ‘crumble’ according to Warren Aspinall.
One of the two teams has just won seven of their last eight games.
The other has won just one of their last seven matches….
Former Brighton striker Warren Aspinall speaking to the Albion Unlimited podcast ahead of Brighton v Newcastle:
“I think if we [Brighton] can score first, we will win the game convincingly.
“Newcastle United crumble…we saw that against Aston Villa.
“They haven’t got the pace at the back to chase games.
“Once Kieran Trippier and Tino Livramento get forward, Fabian Schar goes wandering and we can really exploit them.
“Brighton will have a spring in their step and the confidence is there after the comeback against West Ham.
“There is togetherness again and there are no individuals playing for themselves.
“I’m going for a 3-1 convincing win.”
Any result is possible on Sunday BUT when making predictions and bold statements as to why you think a certain thing will happen, you have to live in the real world, your claims have to make some kind of sense.
Newcastle have won seven of their last eight games, the exception when losing 4-1 at Villa.
Brighton have won only one of their last seven, that was last time out when trailing at home trailing fourth bottom West Ham with a couple of minutes to go, fluking the win as the Hammers fell apart very late on.
When you look at what Warren Aspinall is claiming about Newcastle United easily crumbling supposedly, only last month Brighton lost 3-0 at home to Villa themselves, whilst not so long ago they lost 7-0 to Forest!
In more general terms, is there any truth that Newcastle United ‘crumble’ when going behind?
Well, these are some of the matches where Newcastle United went behind…
Bournemouth 1 Newcastle 1
Wolves 1 Newcastle 2
Newcastle 1 Man City 1
Forest 1 Newcastle 3
Newcastle 3 Liverpool 3
Spurs 1 Newcastle 2
Southampton 1 Newcastle 3
Newcastle 4 Forest 3
Not too bad for a team that easily ‘crumbles’ if going behind!
Also worth pointing out that when Newcastle United get into a winning position in the Premier League, they have only dropped seven points all season! This is the least of any PL team.
