The ever reliable David Ornstein of The Athletic has now reported that Newcastle United have turned down an official bid from Liverpool for Alexander Isak.

In his media exclusive, the man from The Athletic describes this as an ‘initial approach’ from Liverpool.

Ornstein saying that Newcastle United had put forward to Alexander Isak the idea of a new deal that would include a release clause for next year (2026).

The journalist also saying that senior Newcastle United teammates have urged the striker to stay at St James’ Park.

However, Alexander Isak said to have turned down that offer of a new deal which would include a release clause for 2026.

David Ornstein doesn’t give a figure for this formal offer but does reference the fact that Liverpool had previously made clear to Newcastle United that they would be interested in paying £120m for Alexander Isak.

I think what we can take for sure from this, is that this formal offer than has been made, is certainly no higher than £120m.

Ornstein adds that Alexander Isak and his representatives have made clear to the club for ‘some time’ that he wanted to leave this summer.

Following the exclusive from The Athletic, the other media are also reporting Liverpool having an offer turned down. Many of them giving (making up…?) their own figures. For what it is worth, Sky Sports claiming it is £110m plus potential future add-ons that Newcastle United have turned down.
