Newcastle United will launch an improved £35 million bid for Brentford striker Yoane Wissa after an initial £30m bid was knocked back, according to the Sun.

The 28-year-old is desperate to move to the St James’ Park club to join Newcastle, while Magpies manager Eddie Howe wants him just as badly.

The Toons are hoping to have Wissa available when they host Liverpool next Monday, but Brentford do not want to sell him until they have a replacement ready.

Newcastle had thought a deal would quickly be wrapped up after the Bees signed Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth.

However, Brentford see him as a replacement for Bryan Mbeumo and not Wissa, and Newcastle may need to wait for a while.

The Toons target wants to play in the Champions League and is dreaming of the move.

He was excluded from the Brentford team that faced Nottingham Forest on Sunday as the club are prepared to let him fulfil his wish.

They only want a replacement on ground before entering into talks with Newcastle, and the Magpies will keep monitoring the situation of things.

The Toons started the 2025-26 Premier League campaign with a goalless draw against Aston Villa on Saturday, with their lack of attacking firepower evident in the absence of Alexander Isak.

The Sweden international has no plans to play for Newcastle again having told them he wants to leave, and it remains to be seen whether a solution is on the cards.

Liverpool had their £110m bid rejected for Isak last month and will only return with an improved bid if Newcastle make it clear they are ready to sell him.

The Magpies will miss the Swede given his quality, and while Wissa is not on his level, he could prove to be a decent addition after his return of 19 goals and five assists in 35 league games last term.
