Official club announcement on Newcastle United player of the month for May 2024:

Lewis Hall has been named the Sela Player of the Month for May, following a series of impressive performances during a crucial period for the Magpies.

The 19-year-old established himself as a key figure for Eddie Howe’s side during the end of season run-in, starting each of the club’s final four fixtures – and scoring his first Premier League goal in the match at Old Trafford.

Speaking as he collected the award, which is voted for by supporters, Hall said: “A sense of pride comes with receiving any award, but when it’s decided by the fans who pay to come and watch you it feels like an even greater honour.

“Personally, this is a nice way to round off the season. It has been a challenging year so it’s good to finish on a high. The past couple of months I’ve felt a lot more like myself and I’m really happy with how I’ve been able to influence the team and make a positive impact.”

A boyhood Newcastle United fan, the young full-back acknowledges that support of the fans helped to overcome a challenging period after moving to St. James’ Park last August, with the Sela Player of the Month award a recognition of his hard work.

“It was a difficult start to the season but the fans – along with teammates, family and friends -have looked after me both on and off the pitch. I feel like I’ve improved aspects of my game massively, and I’ve become a better person for being able to deal with the challenges.

“Hopefully next season I can impact the team from the start, get as many minutes as I can and show my qualities. I’m obviously still really young so there’s a lot of things I can improve on, but I believe in myself and the gaffer has allowed me to feel this way.

“I’m already looking forward to next season. It would be nice to get my hands on a few more of these as they are really nice awards to receive. The aim is to become a regular in the team, and a regular in the Premier League where hopefully we can challenge for a title in the near future.”
