Sky Sports saying talks are progressing and that Martin Dubravka is the primary target for Burnley.

Massive irony of course, as Newcastle United had been trying to sign James Trafford, only for Manchester City to buy him, leading to the need for Martin Dubravka (or another replacement for Trafford).

Martin Dubravka was set to move to the Saudi Pro Leaguclearly e in January but was persuaded to stay, as Nick Pope was out injured.

The keeper’s contract was due to end on 30 June 2025 but in January a year was added to that, as well as an increase in wages for the Slovakian keeper.

The writing was on the wall with Aaron Ramsdale having arrived, plus Martin Dubravka not taking part in the Far East tour. The goalkeeper has only played 45 minutes at Celtic in the pre-season friendlies and when he didn’t travel to Singapore, Eddie Howe said the plan was for Dubrabvka to join them in South Korea. That never happened and clearly it appears, Martin Dubravka staying in the UK with a move elsewhere the plan.

Rather bizarrely, many journalists and Newcastle fans came to the conclusion that if/when a goalkeeper was signed this summer, then Nick Pope would be the one to move on. Why on earth anybody would have thought that with such a massive season ahead, no way that Eddie Howe was wanting rid of his existing clear first choice keeper.

Martin Dubravka has been a great servant to Newcastle United these past seven and a half years and hopefully will be getting first team football assuming he moves on. Meanwhile, Newcastle United in a strong position with goalkeepers, with England internationals Aaron Ramsdale and Nick Pope
