Newcastle United have a verbal agreement in place to sign 16-year-old midfielder Rory Finneran from Blackburn Rovers this summer, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Magpies have been tracking the teenage midfielder for several months and several other clubs have been interested in signing him.

Newcastle have been working on convincing the 16-year-old Irish midfielder to move to the north east of England this summer.

Talks have been ongoing for a while and it has been claimed that Newcastle are set to sign the Ireland Under-17 captain.

A verbal agreement is in place for Newcastle to snare Finneran away from Blackburn in the ongoing transfer window.

The Magpies are finalising the terms of a deal that would see the teenager join the Newcastle academy.

Finneran has been at the Blackburn academy for a number of years and made his senior debut for the club in the FA Cup last season.

The Championship club were hoping to convince him to stay but the Ireland youth international is set to move to Newcastle.
