Newcastle United, as measured up against all the other Premier League teams.
How do we gauge it?
Which Premier League teams are outperforming their rival?
For Newcastle United and the rest, it surely comes down to what it always does.
How many matches you are winning!
So I have had a look at all 20 Premier League clubs this season…
We are now eight months into the 2024/25 season, this is how many matches each Premier League team has won (and lost), in Premier League AND domestic cup competitions (as of the morning of Tuesday 8 April 2025):
27 and 5 Liverpool
25 and 10 Newcastle United
21 and 9 Forest
20 and 10 Man City
19 and 9 Villa
18 and 10 Palace
17 and 10 Brighton
17 and 10 Chelsea
17 and 11 Fulham
16 and 18 Tottenham
15 and 12 Bournemouth
15 and 15 Brentford
14 and 15 Man U
12 and 19 Wolves
10 and 16 West Ham
9 and 12 Everton
7 and 24 Leicester
6 and 20 Ipswich
6 and 27 Southampton
As you can see above, when it comes to domestic competitions this season, Newcastle United are second most successful, when it comes to winning football matches.
It is still only Liverpool who have won more domestic matches this season than Eddie Howe’s side.
However, that gap has now closed to only two, plus United have a game in hand to play.
It would be quite astonishing if by the end of the season, Newcastle could potentially the number of Liverpool domestic wins this campaign, or even possibly exceed the scousers’ total of wins.
Newcastle United have won their last four domestic games, whilst Liverpool have lost two of their last three.
Newcastle now with four more wins than Forest and five more than Arsenal and Man City.
United then with six more than Villa and seven or more than the rest.
Now having won a Cup Final and in fifth, if Forest fail to beat Everton at the weekend and Newcastle can win these next two home games against Man U and Palace, Eddie Howe’s side would then be third in the Premier League by close of business on Wednesday 16 April.
With two wins, United would move level at the top as well when it comes to victories in domestic games this season, if Liverpool failed to beat West Ham this weekend.
To put this into proper context, quite incredible the number of Newcastle United domestic wins this 2024/25 season, compare it to past seasons:
14 wins – 2019/20
14 wins – 2020/21
23 wins – 2023/24
