A media exclusive has now reported that Newcastle United are set to make imminent bids for both Bryan Mbeumo and Marc Guehi.
The Telegraph state that their information is that the intention is to try and make early first team signings as United prepare to face a 2025/26 on four fronts.
Newcastle United having at least eight Champions League matches as well as the three domestic competitions.
The report says that their information is that ‘everything is in place’, the recruitment preparation work already done, now simply a case of having to ‘push the button and get the deals done.’
Eddie Howe has made clear he would love to see early signings made in June, which would then allow these new signings to have a full pre-season with their new Newcastle United teammates.
The fact there is no international tournaments means there will be even more time available for new signings to integrate with the Newcastle United squad.
Marc Guehi is 24 and Bryan Mbeumo is 25, though both have birthdays before the 2025/26 season kicks off.
All about getting the right balance and whilst Newcastle United’s clear policy has been to ideally sign players and spend the big money on those aged 22 and under (Isak, Gordon, Hall, Livramento, Botman), when United qualified for the Champions League two years ago, the two big signings were a 23 year old Tonali and 25 year old Barnes.
Cruelly, Eddie Howe’s major signings in preparation for the extra demands of Champions League football back in 2023, were undermined by a freak accident that marred Barnes’ first season at NUFC and an even more freak/unusual 10+ months ban for Tonali.
‘Newcastle United are ready to make their first moves in a crucial summer with bids for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi and Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.
Having announced that sporting director Paul Mitchell will leave at the end of June, the Newcastle hierarchy are under pressure to deliver for manager Eddie Howe in the upcoming transfer window.
Telegraph Sport understands that shortlists have been drawn up, top targets have been identified, a budget has been decided and everything, according to one well-placed source, is “good to go”.
