In a recent report, The Chronicle stated that Newcastle United are eyeing a move for Liverpool centre-back Jarell Quansah. It has been claimed that the Magpies have identified the English defender as a target this summer.

Quansah’s Important Role At Liverpool Last Season

Quansah was a useful presence in Arne Slot’s match-day squad in the previous campaign. The English defender appeared in 25 matches for the Reds last season across various competitions.

The 22-year-old did well to make 12 tackles, 10 blocks and 7 interceptions in the Premier League. He even distributed possession accurately from the back after completing 90.8% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via fbref.com).

Quansah is under contract at Liverpool until the summer of 2029 which could make it tough for the Magpies to sign him on a cut-price deal in this transfer period.

Should Newcastle United Head Coach Eddie Howe Bring Quansah On Board This Summer?

Quansah is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive end of the field. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and can even play his way out from the back.

Standing at 1.90m, the English centre-half can use his powerful frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. He is primarily a central defender but can also fill in as a right-back if told to do so.

Quansah has already got some valuable experience in the Premier League and won’t take much time to settle into life at Newcastle United. At 22, Quansah has got a bright future ahead of him. Hence, the Magpies would be wise to try everything they can to bring him on board in this summer transfer window.

We can expect Quansah to add some bite and steel to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s defence. He might even help the Tyneside club challenge across all fronts in the coming seasons. However, the English defender is prone to making errors at the back. Thus, Howe would have to be patient with his progress before he can get the best out of the talented centre-back at St. James’ Park.
