Newcastle United and these other unhappy Premier League clubs need to unite v Cartel and Masters

In a recent article about the Premier League cartel holding Newcastle United back, I mentioned a few other clubs whose interest in growing their respective businesses has been piqued, their ambition reawakened so to speak.

Nottingham Forest were a struggling Second Division side in the mid 1970s and when Brian Clough and his old sidekick Peter Taylor racked up at the City Ground, nobody could have imagined that Forest would win the First Division title, two League Cups and two European Cups by 1980.

Moving on to 1994/95, former Newcastle United left-back Frank Clark won the LMA Manager of the Year award when after promotion he immediately guided Forest to third in the Premier League. However, that proved a false dawn and the glory days were now well and truly behind Forest. Relegated in bottom place in 1996/97, promoted the following season, only to be relegated yet again in bottom place in 1998/99. Now heading for another very long stint in the lower tier wilderness.

They were finally promoted back into the Premier League in 2022 via the Championship play-offs. They have a rich owner who wants his team to be competitive in the EPL.

Aston Villa won the old First Division in 1981, then succeeded the mighty Liverpool as European Champions in 1982.

They would then be relegated to the Second Division only five years later. Apart from a few decent seasons in the EPL in the last few decades, it is fair to say Villa haven’t pulled any trees up.

Until now that is. They have wealthy owners who want to carry the club forward into a brand new era. There is already a top manager, Unai Emery, in place and they are currently playing in this season’s Champions League.

They too just want to be able to financially compete and be the best they can in the so-called ‘Best League in the World’.

Whilst with their new owners the Friedkin Group, Everton have been sending out signals of improving their status by wanting to be able to splash some cash.

I can just imagine the flap that Richard Masters and Co have been in over the last couple of weeks, as they have been trying to draft in new/tighten up the current rules and regulations following the Manchester City APT verdict.

All to protect the Premier League Septic Six.

The people running the game in this country really don’t have any shame whatsoever.

As I said the other day, maybe Newcastle United can forge some allegiance at boardroom level with the other clubs who aren’t happy to have their ambitions stifled.

I would love to see the back of the arrogant and smug Richard Masters and his other faceless cohorts. Everything needs a good and proper shake-up from top to bottom, at EPL and FA headquarters.

If nothing changes sometime soon, competitive football (as we used to know it) will be lost to entire future generations. Ordinary people are just quickly losing interest in what has basically become a very boring product.
