What does the 2024/25 season tell us?

I know a lot has happened since last season…

However, let me remind you of that Newcastle United 2024/25 campaign.

Newcastle United won a trophy, finished top five in the Premier League and qualified for the Champions League.

I haven’t met a single Newcastle United fan who didn’t think it was the best season in living memory.

You get nowhere without goals and Eddie Howe’s players scored plenty of them.

Newcastle United goals scored in the 2024/25 season

68 in the Premier League

7 in the FA Cup

13 in the League Cup

A total of 88 goals scored by Newcastle United in 2024/25

Alexander Isak goals scored in the 2024/25 season

23 in the Premier League

1 in the FA Cup

3 in the League Cup

A total of 27 goals scored by Alexander Isak for Newcastle United in 2024/25

Counting up….

So of the 88 goals Newcastle United scored last season, Alexander Isak scored 27 of them, which means Isak scored 30% of United’s goals and 70% (61) of them were scored by other players.

Alexander Isak is an excellent player and goal scorer but reality is that he is just one member of a team.

Alexander Isak scored what turned out to be the winner at Wembley BUT 10 of the other 12 League Cup goals were scored by other players.

Whilst 45 of the 68 Premier League goals that got NUFC back in the Champions League were scored by other players.

Worth bearing in mind as well, only two of the 61 goals that weren’t scored by Alexander Isak, were scored by the injury prone Callum Wilson.

Between them, Wilson and Isak scored 29 of Newcastle United’s 88 goals in the 2024/25 season.

If Eddie Howe did end up selling Alexander Isak and bringing in two new strikers, is it really impossible that they wouldn’t be able to score 29+ goals this 2025/26 NUFC season, with the likes of Bruno, Gordon, Barnes, Joelinton, Elanga, Thiaw, Botman, Schar, Tonali, Hall, Livramento, Trippier, Burn, Ramsey, Murphy to help them?
