Newcastle United have added Fulham ace Rodrigo Muniz to their list of striker targets this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
Newcastle reportedly made an informal enquiry for Muniz, with a £40 million deal being mooted amid talks with intermediaries.
The Magpies have faced frustration in their bid to sign a new centre-forward, with attackers like Hugo Ekitike, Liam Delap, and Joao Pedro choosing other clubs.
Brentford’s Yoane Wissa wants to join the Tyneside outfit, but his club has refused to let him go, adding to Newcastle’s woes this summer.
They had just started pushing for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, but he reportedly prefers a move to Manchester United, leaving Newcastle further stranded.
The Toons have now added Muniz to their list of targets.
The Brazilian centre-forward is behind Raul Jimenez in the pecking order at Fulham and would jump at the chance to be first-choice elsewhere.
Muniz netted 11 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions last term and 10 the season before.
He has shown glimpses of his remarkable potential and will likely explode with more game time.
Even though he might not be as renowned as Newcastle’s other targets, Muniz would still be a decent pick-up for the club.
Legendary Newcastle striker Alan Shearer believes he is ‘horrible to play against’.
Muniz is a tenacious, sharp centre-forward with deadly finishing and decent hold-up play. He can thrive in Eddie Howe’s system if given the keys.
The 24-year-old represents better value for money than Sesko, whose price tag is well above €70 million.
The Fulham ace knows the Premier League and needs no adaptation.
Meanwhile, Newcastle boss Howe revealed that the club has not received any offers for wantaway striker Alexander Isak amid interest from Liverpool and Al Hilal.
The Swede was not with the team as they lost 1-0 to the K-League XI at the Suwon World Cup Stadium today, angling for a move away.
