Corinthians have a new club president in Osmar Stabile. He has clarified Memphis Depay’s future, confirming that the club don’t want to part with the Dutch international.

Rumours surfaced that Corinthians were considering a possible free transfer for Memphis, but Stabile provided clarity at a press conference.

“We will not negotiate about Memphis under any circumstances,” was the clear conclusion. The Dutch national team’s all-time top scorer has been playing for the Brazilian club since September 2024 and has been important to Corinthians with goals and assists.

Corinthians won the São Paulo state championship earlier this year, and this meant that Memphis was due a bonus. Stabile confirmed this, as well as the fact that the club can’t yet raise this amount. “We’ve spoken with his entourage to agree on a payment schedule. The amount is high and we don’t have the funds, so we’ve asked to pay in instalments. We’re negotiating that.”

Depay was injured this month and subsequently contracted a viral infection. This jeopardises his September international matches with the Dutch national team. “He’s happy; I spoke with him on Tuesday. He’s doing well and recovering. He told me he’s going full steam ahead.”

Memphis’s last match so far was on August 7th, against Palmeiras in the Brazilian Cup. The Dutch national team will play against Poland and Lithuania on September the 4th and 7th in the World Cup qualifying period.

Before those matches, Memphis has two more chances to play for Corinthians: on August 28th in the Brazilian Cup and on August 31st in the Série A. The Dutch team began the group stage in June with two victories over Finland (0-2) and Malta (8-0).
