While De Vrij’s future at the San Siro remains uncertain, the 32-year-old center-back doesn’t have doubts in his mind.

Indeed, he’s eager to pen a contract extension.

His deal runs out at the end of the season, with Inter hesitating to renew his expiring contract.

But it could soon change.

Francesco Acerbi’s long-term absence has re-launched De Vrij’s first-team prospects.

The veteran Dutchman has seized the chance, rolling back the years to become one of Simone Inzaghi’s standout performers.

De Vrij will probably be in the starting line-up when Inter and Bologna square off later this evening.

Meanwhile, he addressed the media in the build-up.

“Wearing this jersey is always a great honor,” De Vrij said. “We carry a lot of responsibility, and in recent years we’ve won many trophies.

“And we want to keep it that way. As a team, it’s important to stay united and aim for the same goals.

“Personally, I believe training is crucial. I’ve always worked hard, and I think it’s essential to invest in yourself and strive to improve every day.

“That’s what has brought me this far.

“Football has given me so many emotions, numerous trophies, and it has taught me how to react to tough moments.”

De Vrij admitted his father was the reason he fell in love with football.

“My father passed this passion on to me,” he added.

“Playing football for me means representing so many fans, and ours are incredible – they always support us.

“Stepping onto the pitch for them is a source of pride.”

Finally, he recalled winning the Serie A title with Inter last term.

“It was an unforgettable night,” he continued.

“Winning the Second Star Scudetto after such an incredible journey was thrilling – a victory for the entire team.”
