Denzel Dumfries has repaid Inter Milan for his contract extension with goalscoring heroics at the start of 2025.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908.
Dumfries signed a contract extension with Inter in November.
The Netherlands international put pen to paper on a new contract until the end of June 2028.
Dumfries has, at times, had his ups and downs at Inter. The 28-year-old has struggled with some niggling injuries which have held back his form.
However, Dumfries has always managed to win the trust of Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi.
The Dutchman’s professionalism and workrate certainly constitute a big part of the reason why. As is his tactical importance as an outlet on the right flank of the 3-5-2 formation.
But there’s another big reason why Inzaghi seems to want Dumfries in the team.
Dumfries has always been a player with an eye for a goal.
The Dutchman showed that even before he joined Inter. He was very prolific for a defender for PSV and the Netherlands national team for some while.
But Dumfries has taken his goalscoring to a new level at Inter.
The Nerazzurri’s system of play under Inzaghi gives Dumfries plenty of opportunities to get forward.
And the Dutchman tends to grab them with both hands.
Dumfries has proven very adept at timing his runs into the penalty area. And then at finishing, with both feet or with his head.
Moreover, Dumfries is a real threat from set pieces.
All of that has been very evident at the start of 2025. Dumfries has scored three goals already for Inter in January.
