Wrexham and Birmingham City are both preparing for life in the Championship next season
Neil Warnock believes that Wrexham and Birmingham City will both be in the top end of the Championship next season.
Both clubs are preparing for life in the second division after earning automatic promotion from League One in the previous campaign.
The Blues spent just one year in the third tier, with Chris Davies overseeing their record-breaking promotion, with the side earning 111 points.
Meanwhile, the Red Dragons are back at this level for the first time since 1982, with Phil Parkinson guiding the club to back-to-back-to-back promotions in the last three terms.
Warnock has claimed that Birmingham and Wrexham will both be contending in the top end of the Championship table in the upcoming campaign.
He has cited the amount of money both clubs are spending for why they will make a smooth transition between divisions.
“I think Wrexham and Birmingham, I mean they bring so much silly money, so they’ve got to have a good chance of being up there,” said Warnock, via Talksport on YouTube.
Birmingham finished 19 points clear of Parkinson’s side last season, with both sides sealing automatic promotion from League One at the first attempt.
Birmingham’s clash at home against Ipswich Town has been selected to open the new Championship campaign on 8 August.
Meanwhile, Wrexham will face another former Premier League side in Southampton, with a trip to St. Mary’s taking place the following afternoon.
The Blues will face Blackburn Rovers, Oxford United and Leicester City before the first international break of the season in September.
Parkinson’s team will come up against West Brom, Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall for their opening four fixtures of the campaign.
Birmingham are being backed by American businessman Tom Wagner, who has made his ambitions clear.
The Blues will want to be competing for promotion to the Premier League straight away, which could shake up the top of the Championship table next season.
Wrexham will also want to fight at the right end of the standings, but don’t quite have the same level of resources as the Midlands outfit, and their immediate goal may simply be survival in the division.
But the Red Dragons will have a lot of supporters, and will bring a lot of attention, so their presence at this level could also shake up the second division in what’s set to be an exciting year for the league.
