Really interesting what Nedum Onuoha had to say about Newcastle United.

The former Manchester City star pretty much perfectly summing up things at Newcastle United.

So many idiotic comments from other ‘experts’ on Eddie Howe and his players.

Instead of those lame and lazy repeated takes from so many journalists, ex-players, pundits and so on, a bit of rational thinking and commenting from Nedum Onuoha.

Nedum Onuoha talking to BBC Sport about Newcastle United and one particular stat…

“Newcastle should 100% have scored after registering 35 shots across two games – but it is not a full-blown problem for Eddie Howe’s side.

“I doubt there is a feeling on the pitch that they won’t score.

“Players in a team that creates opportunities do usually have a belief there will be better times ahead.

“When teams do not create many chances then it is different because there is a pressure to take them.

“Newcastle are not that side.

“With their creativity, the attacking players they have are more than capable of scoring multiple goals in any game.

“Plus, Newcastle do not score loads of goals anyway – yet they know how to get results and they still are.

“People will overreact but the situation is not as bad as some are making it out to be.

“Football is like that.

“Often people never notice these things but then someone brings out a stat and it escalates from there.”

Newcastle United have played well these last three matches and if they hadn’t wasted some golden chances in the last two matches, including a penalty and a handful of one on ones and a free header six yards out, Eddie Howe’s team would have added another six points to the excellent point they picked up with that performance against Man City.

Instead it is only one point from the Everton and Brighton matches.

These things happen. You can be far the better team, dominate the game/possession, loads more shots, loads more corners, loads more touches in the opposition penalty area. Yet the ball just doesn’t go in the net, any luck deserts you, you end up drawing and/or losing instead of getting the results your overall play deserved.

Against Everton, Newcastle had 42 touches in their penalty area compared to 13 for Everton in ours, it was 10 v 0 on corners, 68% NUFC possession and 14 v 8 when it came to shots.

Against Brighton, Newcastle had 45 touches in their penalty area compared to 12 for Brighton in ours, it was 9 v 4 on corners, 60% NUFC possession and 21 v 10 when it came to shots.

Yes, it is very frustrating to have 35 shots over two matches and not scoring a single goal. Even more so when we created a canny few great chances but the likes of Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak not finishing them.

However, this is a very different story to Newcastle United playing badly. This is a story of Eddie Howe’s team playing well, performances much improved the last three games, just need to take our chances and also make other better decisions in the final third.
