Scott McTominay’s future at Manchester United might be influenced by Victor Osimhen’s departure from Napoli.

United’s attempts to strengthen the midfield with a new signing or two have also intensified their desire to part ways with current midfielders who are not considered good enough to play an integral role in Erik ten Hag’s squad moving forward.

McTominay underlined his importance last season with plenty of goals in crucial moments. However, United are still believed to be willing to listen to suitable offers for their academy graduate.

For much of the summer, Fulham appeared to be the only side seriously considering signing the Scotland international. The London outfit have already seen their two bids turned down by the Red Devils.

Now, it appears Napoli are exploring the possibility of signing McTominay. However, their pursuit is far from straightforward.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna held a meeting with United to discuss McTominay’s future.

It states that both the Premier League club and the midfielder have shown a desire for Napoli to progress with negotiations.

Further, as per Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà, the combative midfielder, despite other proposals, has given his priority to Antonio Conte’s side, and his representatives have already held talks over relevant figures and commissions.

However, United are not interested in any loan move without an obligation to buy, as their aim is to secure around €30 million from the 27-year-old’s exit.

United’s demands are viewed as “feasible” but the newspaper suggests Napoli are likely to only submit their bid after having sold Victor Osimhen, who has been linked with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

The Serie A giants are hoping to cash in a significant sum from the Nigerian striker’s sale. His release clause is set at €130m, but it appears the Naples-based outfit is prepared to accept a slightly lower offer too for their star man.

As far as United are concerned, a fee in the region of €30m for McTominay, who has entered the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, would represent a great deal.

United are also reportedly expecting bids for Christian Eriksen. Two major departures would certainly help the Premier League giants spend big on a new midfielder in the final days of the transfer window.
