ROME — Kevin De Bruyne and Jonathan David could form the spine of a bold new Napoli era, as club president Aurelio De Laurentiis pushes for Antonio Conte to lead a project worthy of fresh Scudetto ambitions and European nights under the stars.
According to club insiders, sporting director Giovanni Manna has already made his move. With De Laurentiis’ signature of approval, two major targets have been all but secured. De Bruyne — who turns 34 next month — is reportedly finalising the purchase of a luxurious villa in Naples’ exclusive Posillipo district, while David, the Canadian-Liberian striker with 109 goals across five prolific seasons at Lille, has also been all but sealed.
These aren’t just symbolic signings. They are statements of intent.
The window hasn’t officially opened, but Napoli are wasting no time. Off the back of a historic domestic campaign, the Partenopei are flexing their muscles again — this time by leading the race for two world-class free agents. Unlike past summers marked by hesitation and last-minute negotiations, this feels like a calculated strike.
De Bruyne, a timeless midfield general, offers creative steel, vision and unmatched experience. Jonathan David, just 25, is a natural heir to the Osimhen mantle: explosive, clinical, and confident in Europe’s top tier.
It’s a blend of legacy and future — the kind that could define the next chapter in the club’s identity.

But to rebuild, one must first let go. Napoli’s summer war chest is stacked, largely thanks to two high-profile exits. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s €70 million move to PSG in January already set the tone, while Victor Osimhen’s €75 million release clause is expected to be triggered shortly.
Al-Hilal have reignited their pursuit of the Nigerian forward, with a jaw-dropping salary package potentially exceeding €30–40 million per year. Juventus also tested the waters with an €85 million offer, but Napoli remain firm: Osimhen will not strengthen a domestic rival. Galatasaray, meanwhile, have emerged as a surprise bidder, ready to match the clause and offer Osimhen €15 million annually.
His departure seems imminent. The reinforcements are already in place.
Napoli aren’t done yet. Lille’s 26-year-old Kosovan winger Edon Zhegrova is reportedly on the radar, with talks also progressing for PSG’s Kang-in Lee — a move contingent on the potential exit of André-Frank Zambo Anguissa to the Saudi Pro League.
And then there’s Davide Frattesi. The Italian international remains a long-standing Napoli target, although any serious negotiations will wait until after Inter’s Champions League final against PSG. Meanwhile, whispers from Germany suggest that Leroy Sané — entering the final year of his Bayern Munich contract — is being closely monitored.
It all hinges, however, on Conte. De Laurentiis is said to be all-in on the ex-Italy boss. The Scudetto-winner with Juventus, Chelsea and Inter would bring not just tactical rigour but a galvanising force to a squad in transition.
The Scudetto might have been won once again, but Napoli are no longer thinking in years — they’re thinking in eras.
