Murphy’s Law is now obviously Jacob’s Crackers

Murphy’s Law is the theory that ‘Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.’
I have a feeling that one of our more unlikely current heroes, may well have felt like this earlier in his Newcastle United career.
Rafa Benitez splashed decent cash on Jacob Murphy back in 2017. It must have been a dream come true for this young player, who also confessed to being a lifelong Toon supporter.
Unfortunately, Jacob didn’t immediately set the world on fire at Gallowgate.
Subsequent loan deals to West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield Wednesday then ensued and it looked like United were determined to cut their losses.
Jacob Murphy even had to endure having Steve Bruce as his manager at Wednesday, before returning to Newcastle with his future in limbo.
By this time Rafa had put up with enough of Mike Ashley’s lack of ambition, had clearly sussed that Ashley held United and their supporters in utter contempt.
So put yourself in Jacob Murphy’s shoes the day he saw Ashley’s ninth choice become our new boss, Steve Bruce walking through the door.
The lad must have been as flabbergasted as we all were.
Another relegation soon beckoned and Murphy was offered and signed a new long-term contract in preparation for the drop.
The events of October 7th 2021 totally changed the landscape for United, the City of Newcastle, and a certain Jacob Murphy.
Bruceless was sacked and “the man who got Bournemouth relegated”, Eddie Howe, was appointed to try and preserve Newcastle’s Premier League status.
Eddie not only did that but he found a player in Murphy and rekindled his career.
The right winger flourished under Eddie’s training methods and tutorship and was made to feel an important member of the first team set up.
His performances on the pitch went up to another level and over time Jacob has established himself as a regular fixture in our first eleven.
As a United fan, there is nothing better than seeing a beaming Jacob Murphy after a goal or an assist.
This was never more in evidence than in our latest win on the road against Leicester City.
Within eleven minutes at the Kingpower Stadium, Murphy’s awareness and anticipation had put United into a two goal lead.
He had bagged a fine brace and we never looked back, Harvey Barnes converting a third against his old club.
Just like Big Dan, Burn Jacob Murphy is living the dream at Newcastle United, as he approaches the twilight of his career.
The Carabao Cup Winners medal that he recently picked up at Wembley, is testament to all of his hard work and endeavour to carve out a career for himself at the club he so obviously loves.
