It was a landmark day for the Hoops in the SWPL as Celtic FC Women made it 10 wins from 10 league games with a 3-0 victory over Partick Thistle.

Fran Alonso’s side maintained their 100 per cent start to the new season, after seeing off Thistle with a comprehensive performance and result at Petershill Park.

Not only did the Celts make it a perfect 10 with the result, but they also bagged their 50th SWPL goal of the campaign so far, continuing their impressive haul in front of goal.

Paula Partido’s opener kicked things off for the Ghirls, before the scoring was rounded off in the second half by the in-from Chloe Craig.

In between both those strikes was a special moment for substitute Murphy Agnew, who grabbed her first goal in green and white after arriving in Glasgow during the summer.

Speaking to Celtic TV in the aftermath of the result, the American expressed her delight at opening her account for the club.

She said: “We are all feeling really good after that result! Before the game, we were told that we had never scored more than two goals here against Partick Thistle.

‘So we were all just really glad to contribute to that and another three points!’

“It felt great to be able to get my first goal for the club. As a player, you always want to help contribute to a win.

“So it felt really nice to open my account for Celtic.”

In the past Petershill Park has proved a tough place to go, and on the Celts’ last visit to take on Thistle, it took a dramatic late winner from Caitlin Hayes to secure all three points.

After sealing a top-six finish, and continuing their impressive form into the new season, Alonso and his squad were well aware of the threats that Partick Thistle could offer.

However, the Ghirls put in another strong display to secure victory and keep themselves at the top of the SWPL.

The level of squad depth in this Celtic pool was on show once again, with Agnew coming off the bench to make a big impact on the end result.

The 24-year-old praised the group as a whole for their part to play following a great result as she looks ahead to another big fixture this coming Sunday as the Celts take on Rangers at the Excelsior Stadium.

“We are always looking to score more goals every game,” she explained. “So get three here at Petershill Park is a huge accomplishment.

“It can be such a tough place to play away from home. So we are ultimately really proud of that.

“The level of squad depth as a group is huge. We are all part of a team, and every player matters in the squad.

“I am just glad to be able to contribute too, whether that is starting, coming off the bench or even as an injured player at the side, cheering on the girls.

'You just want to be able to do everything you can for the group.'

“The next game is a huge one, and we want to keep our 100 per cent winning streak going. So it should be another good test.”
