Multiple Premier League clubs likely to chase £5m Chelsea man who is up for sale this summer

Chelsea have signed a lot of players in the last few years, and have a whole new wave of them arriving this summer.

That means a swathe of sales are a certainty, and top of the list is Kepa Arrizabalaga. You might be forgiven for forgetting that he’s still on our books, given he’s spent the last two years out on loan, one with Real Madrid and this current campaign with Bournemouth.

But as a condition of sending him to the South Coast this season we agreed an extra year on his deal with him, so we still have the power to sell him for a small fee rather than watching him walk away for free.

The Telegraph are tonight reporting that Chelsea are looking to make that loan permanent, and we previously had heard that there was a £5m buy option included in the loan deal. That is the least we could get – but we potentially could get even more.

Their article mentions that his form “may attract interest from other clubs,” in a summer where “goalkeeper movement in the Premier League is expected.”

Bournemouth have the right to buy him for £5m in any case, but if (say) Brentford were to bid £8m and Kepa was to prefer a move there, we could easily double our incomings.

Without knowing the specific terms of the deal it’s hard to know exactly how far things could go, but as we understand it there’s no reason we can’t accept higher offers and let the former Athletic Bilbao man decide for himself where he wants to play.

What is certain is that there looks likely to be plenty of interest in the Spaniard, who will finally bring a disastrous association with Chelsea to an end.
