Everton lost another of their Premier League Summer Series clashes, suffering defeat against West Ham United in the United States.

The Toffees took the lead through Idrissa Gana Gueye, but West Ham got back into the game via a howler from new goalkeeper Mark Travers. His poor punch allowed Lucas Paqueta to equalise.

Everton conceded the second, and the defending was abysmal. West Ham striker Niclas Fullkrug carried the ball from almost the centre circle.

No defender stepped up to halt him before he arrowed one into the bottom corner as the Hammers came from behind to beat David Moyes’ side.

Everton drew with Accrington Stanley earlier this month. The Toffees also lost to Blackburn Rovers, Bournemouth and West Ham in pre-season.

However, Moyes believes the results will come when most of the first team is back and he gets more quality from the transfer window.

Asked about the underwhelming results, Moyes took no prisoners.

Moyes said (via Toffee TV): “I am not overly concerned (about the results) because I don’t have the players which I need and what I want. We knew we were up against it.

“It was never really about coming here and winning. Until we get better players back, until we add to the squad, we are always going to struggle, no matter who we are up against.”

The manager sent a message to the board to get him more players before the start of the season, despite already signing Thierno Barry, Travers and Adam Aznou.

The club has been pursuing wingers and midfielders, but cannot get deals over the line.

The Premier League starts in three weeks with a trip to Leeds United, and Moyes is eager for reinforcements in key areas.
