Pep Guardiola has squashed any suggestions that he is similar to Jose Mourinho after his six-finger Anfield salute during Manchester City’s defeat to Liverpool.
City are currently on their worst losing run in the Premier League since 2008 with Sunday’s defeat their fourth consecutive loss.
Guardiola responded to the Liverpool fans chanting ‘sacked in the morning’ at him by raising six fingers in acknowledgement of his six Premier League title wins with City – a striking resemblance to Mourinho’s ‘respect’ rant back in 2018.
But when asked if the pair are perhaps more relatable than first realised, Guardiola responded: “I hope not in my case.
“In the end maybe I’m quite similar to Jose but he won three [Premier League titles], I won six.”
This latest act of defiance from Guardiola is a mark of how quickly City’s season has descended into chaos.
“The beginning of the season was not tough,” Guardiola continued.
“I expected it would be tougher but it was completely the opposite.
“Now when the central defenders fell down and we start to not get results and we lack consistency. The results were not good.
“At the beginning of the season it was really good. We won the Community Shield, we won at Stamford Bridge. We were solid in most of the games.
“I have to find a solution and bring stability to the team and our games, to win games.”
