Marseille’s midfielder-turned-defender Geoffrey Kondogbia (32) will be making his return to Stade Louis II on Saturday afternoon as Les Olympiens head to Monaco in a clash which could define both side’s UEFA Champions League hopes by the end of the season. Having missed out on last season’s away trip to his former club (from 2013-2015), Kondogbia will have the chance to ‘revisit old memories’ – as he suggested in an interview in the L’Équipe paper this morning. “It’s always a pleasure to see some faces that are still at the club. I’ll use it as an opportunity to recall some memories and say a passing hello before the hostilities start,” the Frenchman said in an interview in today’s paper. “Monaco was an important moment in my career, where I started to back myself and my potential. I was that young player that had to justify all the expectation that was put on me.” OM currently sit second in the table, two points ahead of Monaco on 50 points – with Strasbourg right on their coat tails one point behind (and playing this evening). Therefore three points for either side this afternoon would provide a massive boost for their chances of qualifying for the Champions League in what will be a tight contest by the end of the season.GFFN | George Boxall
