Mike Maignan had his own personal battle during AC Milan’s 3-1 defeat against Liverpool at San Siro tonight, fighting through discomfort before suffering a collision that forced him off.
Maignan had been grabbing his thigh muscle at various points during the first half after going down off the ball, and yet he managed to keep going into the second half.
At the start of the second 45 minutes, MilanNews recall that the Frenchman was forced to leave the pitch following a nasty clash with Fikayo Tomori. The goalkeeper got the worst of it, taking the brunt of a sliding challenge to the knee while Tomori and Diogo Jota converged on the ball.
At the end of the match, Maignan left the stadium limping and at this point he is ‘doubtful for the derby’ on Sunday. It was good experience for Lorenzo Torriani, who came off the bench to make his competitive debut with the senior side.
It is another big blow for Milan in addition to what was a bad result and an even worse performance. Maignan has suffered with injury issues a fair bit since joining and this would just be the latest, but in this case it really was an unfortunate collision.
