Manchester City have been greeted by a new potential suitor as the long-term future of midfield superstar Kevin De Bruyne remains largely uncertain.

De Bruyne is widely expected to be a high-profile transfer target for Saudi Arabian clubs this summer, as his contractual situation continues to concern some surrounding Manchester City and particularly supporters.

Into his ninth year as a Manchester City player, having first joined the club in the summer of 2015, De Bruyne is entering into the final year of his existing Etihad Stadium deal, as club officials finalise their plans and approached for the forthcoming market.

But as plans continue to be discussed within the City Football Academy offices over their approach towards Kevin De Bruyne and his contract, a new club has emerged as a potential suitor ahead of the summer window.

According to the information of HITC’s Graeme Bailey, new American MLS franchise San Diego FC are ready to ‘launch an audacious attempt’ to sign Manchester City’s vice-captain and midfield legend Kevin De Bruyne.

While De Bruyne has been strongly linked with a move to the Saudi Arabian Pro League over the last few months, the report claims that the Manchester City midfielder would prefer a move to America.

San Diego would reportedly offer De Bruyne terms that will be ‘comparable’ to football icon Lionel Messi, and with the Belgian being a ‘big fan’ of the USA , such a move would be his preference if he was to ever move out of England in the final years of his career.

With the Belgium international’s current Manchester City contract expiring in the summer of 2025, it is reassured that the Premier League champions are open to discussing a new deal this summer, and contact has already been made with the 32-year-old’s camp.

Regardless of Kevin De Bruyne’s future, Manchester City are highly likely to recruit in the midfield positions this summer, having already identified Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes and West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta as potential targets.

Should De Bruyne leave the club either this summer, or during the 2025 summer window on a free agreement, then Manchester City could turn attentions to the Bundesliga – home to two of their perceived most-suitable successors to the Belgian.

Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala is strongly admired within Manchester City, despite the current belief being that the youngster will remain at the Allianz Arena, while Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz could enter the fray next summer, too.
