Santiago Gimenez has gotten off to a good start at Milan, hitting the net in his first two Serie A matches. The Rossoneri had to negotiate at length with Feyenoord to get the deal done, but they had set the stage in advance, Calciomercato relays.
The striker had instructed his agent Rafaela Pimenta to do whatever she should to transfer to San Siro. Tottenham tested the waters in the final days of the transfer market session. El Bebote snubbed them because he had given his word to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Spurs eventually added Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich.
Feyenoord and Milan haggled for a while, but the Gimenez deal was never truly in danger of collapsing as all parties wanted the same thing. The Rossoneri solved an issue related to the bonuses owed to his previous team, Cruz Azul, by selling Luka Romero to them for €3.5M. They could have gotten double as much from Atlas, which wanted the young attacker as well.
In the end, the Serie A powerhouse will pay €28.5M plus 10 percent of a future sale. The add-ons could amount to €6.5M. A large portion of them is tied to making the top four. Those related to winning the Champions League or the Coppa Italia are less conspicuous. The Dutch side will pocket €1M if the Mexican talisman bags ten goals across all competitions.
They couldn’t have hoped for a better start as, while the chemistry with his teammates needs some inevitable fine-tuning, they signed him to score first and foremost. Plus, they didn’t even need to pay a premium to have him in January, which is generally the case.
