Milan can breathe a huge sigh of relief as Mike Maignan was released from the hospital on Saturday morning and is now heading back to the city. According to TMW, all medical results came back negative as the French goalkeeper avoided a serious head injury.

Sergio Conceicao had to take his star stopper off at the start of the second half in last night’s 4-0 rout of Udinese in Serie A. Indeed, the Milan talisman had a nasty collision with his teammate, Alejandro Jimenez, remaining motionless on the ground before being stretchered off.

However, after heart-stopping scenes at the Bluenergy Stadium, Milan received positive news from the clinic. Maignan had never lost consciousness despite taking a nasty punch in the head. Yet, he had to go to the hospital in Udine for precautionary tests and stay under observation overnight.

Maignan has been one of Milan’s standout performers. Therefore, his immediate return to fitness can encourage the Rossoneri faithful, especially with the second leg of a mouth-watering Coppa Italia semi-final tie against bitter rivals Inter Milan on the horizon.

On the other hand, last night’s triumph saw Milan whittle down the gap on sixth-placed Lazio to four points, albeit only temporarily. Marco Baroni’s charges will meet arch-rivals Roma in the latest edition of the famous Derby della Capitale tomorrow night, looking to re-establish a seven-point cushion.

With Milan on the verge of missing out on European qualification, Maignan’s long-term future at the San Siro could be in jeopardy.
