We rounded up all the latest transfer news from Middlesbrough.
It is fair to say it has been a mixed start to the season for Middlesbrough after an eventful summer.
After finishing 10th in the Championship last season, Middlesbrough made the big call to part company with head coach Michael Carrick in June following a lengthy internal review, and he was replaced by former Luton Town manager Rob Edwards.
Edwards has been allowed to strengthen his squad this summer, with the likes of Callum Brittain, Alfie Jones and Abdoulaye Kante arriving at the Riverside Stadium, but the lack of new additions has frustrated many Boro supporters.
The Teesside outfit began their league season with a 1-0 win over Swansea City on Saturday, but they crashed out of the EFL Cup after suffering a humiliating 4-0 home defeat to League One side Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday night, with the game highlighting the need for further reinforcements.
With just under three weeks to go until the end of the window, we rounded up all the latest Boro transfer news.
After completing the signings of Brittain, Jones and Kante, Middlesbrough announced their fourth new addition of the summer on Wednesday morning as winger Sontje Hansen arrived from Dutch side NEC Nijmegen.
Hansen came through the Ajax academy before joining NEC in the summer of 2023, and he went on to score 13 goals and provide nine assists in 72 appearances for the club, with seven of those goals coming last season as he helped his side to an eighth-placed finish in the Eredivisie.
The 23-year-old was linked with ambitious newly-promoted Birmingham City earlier in the summer, but Boro have now beaten their Championship rivals to his signature, and he has put pen to paper on a four-year contract at the Riverside Stadium.
Boro are believed to have paid a fee of around €3.5 million (£3 million) for Hansen, who has scored one goal in seven appearances for the Netherlands at Under-21 level.
After a summer of speculation over his future, Rav van den Berg is heading for the Middlesbrough exit door.
Van den Berg joined Boro from Dutch side PEC Zwolle for a fee of just €300,000 (£260,000) in the summer of 2023, and he has gone on to score one goal in 66 appearances, with his performances in the North East catching the eye of a number of other clubs.
Premier League clubs had been linked with van den Berg this summer, as well as others in Germany, but newly-promoted Bundesliga side FC Koln have won the race for his signature.
According to journalist Dominic Shaw, the Billy Goats' deal to sign van den Berg for a fee of €13 million (£11.2 million) including add-ons, which represents a huge profit on the figure Boro paid for him two years ago.
With Alex Bangura expected to remain sidelined until at least the end of August as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury suffered in pre-season, Middlesbrough do not currently have any fit senior left-backs.
Winger Sammy Silvera has filled in at left wing-back impressively in recent weeks, but it seems Edwards is preparing to enter the transfer market to find a solution to the problem, and Nixon reported on Monday night that Boro are lining up a move for Southampton's Charlie Taylor.
Taylor joined the Saints from Burnley last summer, but he made just 10 appearances for the South Coast outfit in all competitions last season as they were relegated from the Premier League, and he was left out of the squad by new manager Will Still for the 2-1 victory over Wrexham on Saturday.
The 31-year-old featured as a second-half substitute in Southampton's 1-0 win at Northampton Town in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night, but he appears to be far down Still's pecking order.
With Seny Dieng out injured, Sol Brynn has started the season as Middlesbrough's number one goalkeeper, and he put in a solid performance in the victory over Swansea on Saturday.
Despite that, it appears that Edwards is still keen to bring in another goalkeeper this summer, and journalist Alan Nixon claimed on Sunday that Hull City's Ivor Pandur is on Boro's list of possible targets.
However, there have been conflicting reports on the situation, with The Northern Echo claiming that, while Pandur is "admired" by Boro, they have not yet made an enquiry to the Tigers about a potential deal and do not plan to strengthen between the sticks.
Even if Boro were to step up their interest in Pandur, it seems likely their advances would be firmly rejected by Hull, with the East Yorkshire outfit believed to be planning to offer a new contract to the 25-year-old, who kept seven clean sheets in 45 appearances last season.
