This new signing really hit the ground running! Powerful dribbling, an inimitable drive towards goal and a total of 40 scorer points in 55 competitive appearances - Michael Olise's maiden season with the German record champions was more than impressive. The French attacker was not merely a reinforcement for Vincent Kompany's side. He immediately became a first-choice player and was one of the mainstays on the way to the 34th Bundesliga title. Michael Olise is therefore quite rightly your 2024/25 FC Bayern Player of the Season.
The FCB number 17 garnered almost half of all votes cast in the fan poll (44.8 per cent), beating outgoing club legend Thomas Müller (18.7 per cent) and Harry Kane (9.4 per cent) into second and third place respectively. The accolade was richly deserved after Olise had already secured the title of FC Bayern Player of the Month three times during the season (best result with Jamal Musiala).
In addition to the league title, Olise also won the Player of the Season award in his first year at Bayern.
The powerful impression Olise has made on fans over the past 12 months is also underpinned by the statistics - particularly in the Bundesliga. In the championship-winning season, he racked up the most scorer points in the competition behind Harry Kane (32) with 27 direct goal contributions (12 goals, 15 assists). His tally of 15 assists were in fact the best in the league, as were his 91 lay-offs for shots on goal and 32 directly created chances. The winger reinforced his status as the league's most prolific left-footer, scoring all 12 of his goals last season with his left foot (his best) - including four from outside the penalty area, a feat only achieved by his new teammate Tom Bischof. In addition, no other new signing at FC Bayern since the start of detailed data collection (2004/05) has managed to get into double figures in both the goals and assists categories in his maiden season.
Consequently, coach Kompany is delighted to have the 23-year-old in his team: "We signed Michael and had high hopes. But it's not always the case that a player manages to integrate so quickly," said the Belgian about Olise during the Club World Cup: "I see his hunger every day. He's a very hard worker. That's the foundation, along with his talent." But there's a lot more to come - Kompany and Olise have plenty of big ambitions together: "No-one doubts that he can make the difference. And we absolutely need that," continued the head coach.
Not long now until the summer break is over - and we'll see if Michael Olise can top his impressive first season in a Bayern shirt.
The DFL (German Football League) also bestowed an award on Olise for his first season in a Bayern shirt:
