An iconic figure in German football has on Wednesday backed one of his fellow countryman to link up with La Liga champions Real Madrid.
The player in question? Florian Wirtz.
Youngster Wirtz is for his part in the midst of a remarkable individual campaign.
Amidst Bayer Leverkusen’s historic unbeaten run, the 21-year-old has featured on 47 occasions, racking up 18 goals and a whopping 20 assists along the way.
Such exploits have given rise to inevitable speculation surrounding Wirtz’s future, with numerous outlets in Spain having pointed towards Real Madrid as ready to launch a big-money assault for his services in the summer of 2025.
And one individual of the opinion that any such move would prove a success for both parties comes in the form of Michael Ballack.
Speaking in an interview with Sport Bild, as cited by Diario AS, Leverkusen legend Ballack was asked for his take on the speculation linking Wirtz with a move to Madrid.
And the former midfielder did not hesitate in endorsing as much, assuring:
“Wirtz is ready for Real Madrid. As far as football goes, Wirtz can definitely play for Real Madrid. You can also see it in Jude Bellingham after his move from BVB to there: when you play with even better players, you become even better.”
