AC Milan play Inter in midweek, but due to the Pope’s passing, the Nerazzurri may approach the game differently.
On Monday morning, Pope Francis passed away at the age of 88 after a period of illness, and this caused Italy to go into a standstill, with Lega Serie A opting to postpone the day’s games, understandably.
However, it seems that the postponements are not yet finished, and this weekend, there could be further disruptions to the football calendar.
As SportMediaset (via Milan News) write, there is a possibility that Inter’s game against Roma is suspended this weekend, due to the Pope’s funeral, which will take place on Saturday morning at 10 am.
The Nerazzurri are not due to play until 6 pm that evening, however, the day could be declared as a day of mourning for the nation, which happened in 2005 when Pope Wojtyla passed, so a repetition is not unpredictable.
Due to Inter’s participation in the Coppa Italia, if they were to reach the final by beating Milan, it would make finding a new date for the fixture very difficult. So if anything, the Rossoneri winning tomorrow night would be doing the league fixture organisers a huge favour.
If the game is to be postponed, though, it could cause Simone Inzaghi to alter his plans in terms of rotations, which could perhaps be a slight advantage for them, which would only further the Diavolo’s underdog ‘tag’.
